Mrs. Ann Stinson Matthews died at the home of her son James, Tuesday afternoon, July 4th, 1899, at six o'clock.
Ann Stinson was born in the County of Tyrene, Ireland, Dec. 24th, 1819. She was married to Robert Matthews in the city of New York, Nov. 19th, 1845, and in the same year moved to Trumbell county, Ohio, where they resided until the year 1853, when they moved to Clayton county, Iowa, settling on a farm in Wagner twp. Her husband, Robert Matthews, died Aug. 31st, 1888. There were seven children born to them, two sons and five daughters, one daughter, Melissa, dying in 1871. Those who survive her are, James and Edward of Farmersburg; Mrs. Wm. L_re, of Luverne, Minn.; Mrs. Wm. Brown, of Monona twp.; and Mrs. Lewis Saacke, Wagner twp.
She was a kind and affectionate mother, ever ready to lend a helping hand to all in time of need, and was highly esteemed by all who knew her. The funeral was held at the church Thursday afternoon July 6th, at the church, the services being conducted by Rev. Littler, of Monona, and her remains were laid to rest in the Farmersburg cemetery. The children and grandchildren have the sympathy of all in this their bereavement.
