Elkader Register, Thur., 18 May 1899. Elkport and Vicinity column.
DIED- Sunday, May 14th, 1899, Mamie Flaherty McGuire, wife of William McGuire and daughter of Peter and Mary Flaherty. The announcement Sunday that Mamie Flaherty is dead startled our community like a clap of thunder from a clear sky, sorrow was expressed on all sides that one so young and good should be removed from this life. The deceased was 28 years of age and was born and raised in Elkport. Feb. 14th, 1897, she was married to William McGuire, she leaves a husband and child to mourn the loss of a kind and noble wife and mother. The entire community extend their deepest sympathy with the bereaved husband and the little motherless child and to the bereaved father and mother who but so shortly before this were called upon to part with a beloved son. The deceased was sick but a short 24 hours and all that kind friends and the best of medical aid could do was of no avail. Drs. Kriebs and Duffin remained constantly at the bedside of the sufferer. The funeral took place Wednesday and was largely attended, Father Minougue officiating.
