Elkader Register, Thur., 04 May 1899. Luana column.
About two weeks ago Chester Spencer, living on the creek, north of here, was taken with typhoid fever and died last Friday. Everything was done for him that kind friends could do, but without avail. The funeral, under the auspices of the Odd Fellows, of Waukon, was held at the house on Monday. He was buried at Waukon. He lately joined the Modern Brotherhood of America, Luana Lodge, and leaves a policy of $2,000 for his wife.
