Elkader Register, Thur., 27 Apr. 1899. Volga City Views column.
On Thursday evening, April 20th, occurred the death of W. Fremont Marble, after an illness of only five days. Warren Fremont Marble was born October 5, 1861, in Boscobel, Grant County, Wis. He came to Volga City with his parents in June, 187_ (looks like 1870), where he has since resided. He was married in 1891 to Miss Norah Tenney. Two sons were born to bless this union. The funeral services were held in the Christian church and at the cemetery. Rev. M. Hollett, of Arlington, preached the sermon. There were many floral tributes from those who loved him. Silver Maple Lodge, M.W.A., presented a beautiful shield of flowers. The music was suitable and well rendered. The members of Silver Maple Lodge No. 2514, M.W.A., marched from the hall to the house, from whence they preceded the remains to the church. After the ceremonies at the church were concluded the lodge marched to the cemetery as an escort to the remains. The short, but impressive and beautiful ceremony of the order was gone through with the mortal remains of our beloved brother were consigned to mother earth. Brother Marble was our V.C., and a good and efficient officer, always faithful to duty and proud of the order. Since joining the lodge in 1895 he paid in less than $25 and leaves the snug item of $1,000 to his wife. We shall miss him, but forever, as long as life has memories, his splendid example of fidelity to duty will inspire us, one and all, to better living.
