Elkader Register, Thur., 13 Apr. 1899. McGregor column.

A. M. Ziegler, a well known citizen, died on the 7th of pneumonia. He was 61 years old and has lived here for almost 20 years. He leaves a widow and one child, Mrs. Will Hagensick. The G.A.R. conducted the funeral Sunday afternoon.

A.M. Zeigler was born in Ashland co., Ohio, March 25, 1838, died April 7th, 1899, of pneumonia and heart failure after a weeks illness, being 61 years and 13 days of age at the time of death.

In the spring of 1864 he enlisted in Co. K, 46th Illinois Inft. volunteers and received an honorable discharge in the winter of 1866, having served his country faithfully two years and two months, came to Iowa in the summer of 1875 and moved to McGregor in the fall of 1880 where he has since resided.

In [either 1862 or 1882] he was united in marriage to Sarah McCalla, who with one daughter, Mrs. Will Hagensick, and two brothers survive him, three children having preceded him.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the family residence, services being conducted by Rev. Mr. Ferguson. At the grave the beautiful service of Hervey Dix Post G.A.R. were held as the burial was under the auspices of this noble Order, who attended the funeral in a body, he being a member of this Order.
