On Monday last occurred the death of the infant child of Wm. Sheppard after an illness of five weeks. The funeral was held on Wednesday at the brick church, Rev. Fisk, of Elkader, officiating.

George Dewey, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Shepherd, Jr., was born July 7, 1898, and died April 10, 1899, at the age of 9 months and 3 days, after an illness of five weeks. The funeral services were conducted at the Congregational church at Garnavillo on Wednesday, April 12th, Rev. Fisk, of Elkader, officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd have our heartfelt sympathy in their bereavement.
This lovely bud, so young and fair,
Called hence by early doom,
Just came to show how sweet a flower
In paradise would bloom.Ere sin could harm or sorrow fade;
Death came with friendly care;
The opening bud to Heaven conveyed,
And bade it bloom there.
