Last Sunday morning Joseph Jaeger was found dead in bed at the home of his son Jacob, who lives about 9 miles southwest of this place in Jefferson township. Coroner Scholz was notified and at one repaired to the place and held an inquest. From the facts there developed it appears that Mr. Jaeger had lived with his son for the past ten years, and it was the custom for the son or his wife to call the old gentleman when breakfast was ready. Mrs. Jaeger Jr., accordingly called him several times on Sunday morning, but received no response.

When her husband came in from attending the chores she apprised him of the fact, whereupon he at once went up to wake his father when he found him cold and stiff in death. A Hebrew peddler named John Mell had slept in the same room with the old gentleman that night, but heard no noise during the night, or noticed anything unusual in the morning when he arose.

A jury consisting of Fred Groth, Christ Seling and Joe Heisler, after hearing the evidence returned a verdict that Joseph Jaeger came to his death from natural causes.. Mr. Jaeger will be buried tomorrow under the rites of the Catholic church.

In our last issue we had a short account of the death of Joseph Jaeger who was found dead in his bed on Monday morning last.

He was born March 17, 1819, in Wangenstadt Kries Freiburg amt Emmerdingen. He came to the United States in the year 1847 and lived for seven years in Harrisburg and Philadelphia, Penn. He came to Clayton county in 1854 and settled on the farm where he died.

He was married in 1856 to Miss Katherine Knorr and eleven children were born to them. In January 1889 the dread disease diphtheria took his wife, two grown girls and two daughters in less than one week's time. Besides losing four children by diphtheria he has lost four children from other causes.

He is survived by three sons, Jacob, Peter and Joseph, all farmers in Jefferson township. Mr. Jaeger was better known as Dr. Jaeger. He would have been 80 years of age the 17th day of next March. His funeral took place last Thursday from St. Mary's church.

May he rest in peace.
