Elkader Register, Thur., 19 Jan. 1899. Strawberry Point column.
How little we know what a day may bring forth, is exemplified in the sudden death of Chas. Edgar, aged 11 mos., and only son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Clawson which occurred last Thursday afternoon. As beans were lying around on the kitchen floor it is thought the babe swallowed one and it lodged in the windpipe chocking him to death but no one knows for sure. Every thing that could be done for the little one was done but the bean had done its work. We know that the heart felt sympathy of our people goes out to them, but how little it consoles the tender mother and affectionate father whose hearts are aching with heavy burden of grief. Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. Green.
Fold the little waxen fingers
Across the snowy breast,
Sadly close the drooping eyelids,
Chas Edgar is at rest.On the downy coffin pillow
Lay the sunny head,
Lay our darling gently
In his lonely bed.
