At his home in Wagner township, at about 9 o'clock Friday evening, Dec. 30, 1898, Peter Wagner, sank in the sleep that knows no awakening on earth. He had been confined to his bed only since the Sunday previous. Mr. Wagner was born Feb. 5th, 1827, at Oberfallen, Luxemburg, Germany. He came to America in 1855, coming to Dubuque county, Iowa. In 1860 at Luxemburg, he was united in marriage with Susan Wagner. In 1862 he came to Clayton county settling on a farm near Littleport. In December 1868 he moved to the farm upon which he died. Eight children were born to him, of whom six with his wife survive and mourn his death. These are: Annie R., Katie R., Chas. G., John G., Peter J., of Elkader, and Mrs. Peter J. Ransch, of Luxemburg. Dubuque county. The funeral was held on Monday, solemn high mass being celebrated at St. Joseph's church by Rev. Father Reilly assisted by Revs. Raedler, of Garnavillo, and Father Donlon.
