Frances Katherine Henkes, nee Thompson, was born on a farm, the home of her parents, in Monona Township, Clayton County, Iowa, April 23, 1901; and died at the McGregor Hospital about 8 o'clock the morning of Dec. 1, 1929.
The illness of Mrs. Henkes was of short duration. After being sick at her home for a week she was moved to the hospital where she remained for about two weeks, until death claimed her. For many years she was handicapped by poor health, but she met life bravely and courageously.
On Sept. 7, 1922, she was united in marriage to Howard H. Henkes, and to this union were born two children. For their entire married life Mr. and Mrs. Henkes lived on a farm about six miles southwest of Monona. Mrs. Henkes always did all her health would permit to establish a good home, and meet the needs of a growing family.
She is survived by her father, husband, two children, namely: Verdene, age two and one-half years, and Marganell, age four years, two brothers, Victor Thompson and Walter Thompson, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were held at the Monona Pilgrim Evangelical Church and interment was made in the Monona cemetery; Rev. R. W. Berg officiating.
