John Edwin Clinton died at his home in Cox Creek township, Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1929, as a result of pneumonia after an illness of only three days duration.
Deceased was born February 12, 1877, in Lodomillo township, this county, the son of Edwin and Caroline Clinton. He was educated in the rural schools of Cox Creek township and June 26, 1906, was united in marriage at Littleport to Miss Emma Nightengale. To this union six children were born, namely: Mrs. Chas. Pixler, of McGregor, Gladys, Marcella, LaVern, Lela and Leo at home.
All these survive, together with the aged mother, Mrs. Caroline Clinton, and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Wayne Pugh, George and Wayne Clinton, of Littleport; Fred Clinton, Volga City; Ernie Clinton, McGregor; Charles Clinton, of Ponca City, Okla.; and Mrs. M. F. Whalen, of Othello, Wash.
Clayton county has been the home of Mr. Clinton for the fifty-two years of his life; he was born in Lodomillo township, resided for a time in Elk township and since March 1, 1924, has resided on the farm where he passed away, farming being his life's work.
For the past four years and to the time of his death he was school director in District No. 2, Cox Creek township and he was also affiliated with the Modern Woodmen of America.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Sept. 22, at one-thirty at the late home, while interment was made in the Union Cemetery, at Littleport, with Rev. C. H. Franke, of this place, officiating.
