Clayton County Register, Thur., 29 Aug. 1929. Strawberry Point column.

Olive Electa Whipple, youngest daughter of Darwin and Eliza Whipple, was born January 30, 1858, and passed away August 24, 1929, at the age of 71 years, six months and 21 days.

She was united in marriage April 13, 1875, to John M. Carpenter and for nearly fifty years they traveled life's pathway together and shared life's joys and sorrow. Her husband preceded her in death Oct. 1924. Six children were born to this union, five of whom survive her; Lily L., having passed away at the age of fifteen in April 1894. Her entire life was spent in the immediate community and for the past twenty-two years she has resided in her home east of strawberry Point, at which place her death occurred.

She was a great lover of her home and her constant hope was that she might remain in her old home until God's call and she would be bourne to her final resting place. She had been a constant sufferer for the past eight months and bore her sufferings with great patience and fortitude. She took great comfort in doing for others and found no sacrifice too great for her loved ones.

She is survived by two sons and three daughters: Alva L. of Aurora, Iowa; John Delbert, of Strawberry Point; Daisy Farmer of Mederville; Sadie C. of Strawberry Point; and Laura Henry of Davenport, all of whom were at her bedside at the time of her death. Two brothers also survive: Edgar J. Whipple of Chester, Iowa, and Darwin Whipple of LaCygne, Kansas, and twenty-four grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. T. J. Elwick of the M.E. church, and her body was laid to rest beside her husband and daughter in the beautiful cemetery at Strawberry Point. The pall bearers were: John Knight, Will Knight, Earl Knight, Ira Rankins, James Sauerbry and Irving Burgin.
