Clayton County Register, Thur., 25 July 1929.
On Sunday morning, July 14th, Edwin Ernest, the eleven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Halvor Wikan, passed away at the hospital at West Union, following an operation Tuesday.
Edwin Ernest was born in Highland, Clayton county, April 14tth, 1918, thus being at the time of his death eleven years and three months.
Up till Sunday before his death he was his usual self, a happy, playful boy, but on Sunday he was not feeling well. He was better again on Monday; in the afternoon he got worse but not before Tuesday did his illness in any way indicate serious trouble. Then the doctor took him to the hospital at West Union, where an operation was performed that same afternoon, and though all was done that could be done, Edwin's vitality was not great enough to overcome the effects of his illness and the operation.
He leaves to mourn his death his parents, Mr. ad Mrs. Halvor Wikan, and the brothers and sisters, Victoria, Harold, Phyllis, Lawrence, Robert, Mary, Helen, and John, all at home. Beside the immediate family he leaves also the grandparents and many other relatives and friends, who all feel a sincere sympathy for the bereaved family in this hour of sorrow.
The funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 17th, from the home and from the Highland Lutheran church, with interment in the cemetery adjoining the church. The pastor, the Rev. G. Gunsten, officiated. A large number of friends were present to give expression of their sympathy for the family. The funeral services were made very impressive by the singing both at the home and at the church, by a trio consisting of Hon. Charles Benson, Mrs. Elmer Benson, and by Mrs. Philman Larson and a group of five little girl schoolmates of the deceased.
