Clayton County Register, Thur., 18 July 1929. Strawberry Point column.

Last Tuesday about noon friends were shocked when word was passed around that Jim Duncan was dead. Mr. Duncan had not been well for some time but was up and around most of the time. He had been at his usual work that morning, after which he went out to pick berries. Mrs. Duncan was busy with her work in the house and when dinner was ready called to her husband but received no answer. On going out she found him lying face downward and a half box of berries in his hand. A physician and neighbors were called and found death due to heart trouble. Funeral services were held in the M.E. church Thursday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. T. J. Elwick. Interment was in our beautiful cemetery. Six neighbors of the deceased were pall bearers: Wm. Hallstead, Fred Miller, Winnie Bowers, Wm. Prussel, H. Simpson and D. Scully.

James Monroe Duncan, son of Tillman and Catherine Duncan, was born near Strawberry Point, July 4, 1862, and passed away suddenly at his home one mile north of town, Tuesday, July 9, 1929.

On December 17, 1884, he was united in marriage with Miss Eliza Osbourne of Osbourne, Iowa, the ceremony being performed at Elkader by the Rev. Mr. Skinner. To this union two children were born, Lee of Manchester, and Hazel at home.

Besides his wife and two children, he is survived by one grandson, Ronald Huston, and the following brothers and sisters: Henry of Waterloo; Will of Edgewood; Tim and Albert of Strawberry Point; Mrs. Minnie Moser of San Diego, California; Mrs. Emma Andrus of Manly, Nebraska; Mrs. Nora Mullen of Anamosa; and Mrs. Carrie Kramer of Edgewood.

All his life Mr. Duncan was a resident of this community, and was a member of the M.B.A. lodge and of the Modern Woodmen. Years ago he was received into the membership of the Methodist church. He was a kindly man in the home and among his neighbors, and charitable in his attitude toward all.
