Clayton County Register, Thur., 18 July 1929. Strawberry Point column.
The remains of Boardman Cooley, formerly of this place but now of St. Paul, arrived here Friday morning and the funeral services were held at the M.E. church in the afternoon, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. T. J. Elwick. Interment took place in our beautiful cemetery. The Masons, of which the deceased was a member, attended in a body and had charge of the services at the grave. Beautiful flowers covered the casket.
Boardman Cooley was born at Strawberry Point, Iowa, August 22, 1866. On Nov. 9, 1892, he was united in marriage to Miss Mae Marsh of Arlington at West Union. To this union nine children were born, four having preceded their parents in death. The deceased was editor of the Strawberry Point Press for a number of years. After disposing of the plant he moved to Dubuque, where he was employed on the Dubuque Telegraph-Herald. While living at Dubuque Mrs. Cooley passed away Sept. 15, 1912. A few years later Mr. Cooley went to St. Paul, where he was united in marriage to Mrs. Frances Allen. Mr. Cooley was sick only a few days with double pneumonia, which was the cause of his death. He is survived by his wife and five children, Mrs. Marguerita Fitzpatrick of Dubuque; Dr. Lawrence Cooley and Miss Martha Cooley of Chicago; Miss Ruth Cooley of St. Louis; and Theodore Cooley in the Naval Aviation Service; also one brother, John Cooley of McLaughlin S.D.; one sister, Mrs. Kate Livingston of Cresco; and one half-brother, Dick Cooley of Los Angeles, Cal., besides other relatives and a large circle of friends. "Boardie" is gone but not forgotten.
