Clayton County Register, Thur., 11 July 1929. Garnavillo column.

Louis William Meyer was born Nov. 16, 1862, in Farmersburg township as the oldest son of Mr. Louis Meyer and his wife Elizabeth, nee Moellering. He received his early education in Equity dist. and April 14, 1878, he was confirmed in St. Paul's church by Rev. Bernhard Starke, receiving as his memory verse, "Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life." After his confirmation he helped his father on the farm. Sept. 25, 1890, he was united in marriage to Amelia Kregel by Rev. F. Sommerlad. This union was blessed with four children who survive the father.

Mr. Meyer was always the picture of health, it was therefore a great shock to the family when he began to show the first signs of physical ailment since the beginning of the new year. He sought medical aid, but it seemed no remedy would relieve his condition.

About five weeks ago he was examined at Rochester in the Mayo clinic. They found that he was suffering from one of the rarest diseases which attack the human body, leuchaemia, and for which medical science so far has not found a remedy. He came home fully resigned to his Father's will. With a grateful mind he accepted the ministrations which our heavenly Father offers to us in His Holy word and sacrament of which he partook with his entire family, and brothers and sisters on Monday afternoon. Although his loving ones were conscious of the seriousness of his illness, yet death came all too soon.

He leaves to mourn his widow, Mrs. Amelia Meyer, two daughters, two sons, and four grandchildren: Adela, married to Dr. Owen Kinsel of Tipton, Ia., Florence, married to Carl Huebner, of Postville, Ia., Eldo married to Beatrice Backhaus of Garnavillo township, and Elmer at home. Two brothers and two sisters: Mrs. Minnie Kregel and Mrs. Theo. Meyer of Garnavillo, Henry Meyer of La Mars, Iowa, and John Meyer of Farmersburg.

He had reached the age of 66 years, seven months and sixteen days. He was a faithful member of St. Paul's church and also the Lutheran Brotherhood. Besides his family he leaves a host of relatives, friends and neighbors who mourn his early departure. Funeral services were held in St. Paul's church Friday afternoon, Rev. Braun officiating.
