Clayton County Register, Thur., 27 June 1929.

Freda Sophia Horstman, nee Jauert, daughter of Christian Jauert and his wife Mary, nee Possehl, was born in Volga Twp., Feb. 17, 1880. She was received into the heirship as a child of God through Holy Baptism, and reaching the age she was duly instructed and Confirmed. She was united in holy wedlock to Fred C. Horstman Feb. 25, 1903, and God blessed this union with three sons, one dying in infancy.

Mr. and Mrs. Horstman made their home just out of Garber, where they spent all their life. Being a farmer's wife, she had much to care for and to see to, and with her cares she possibly neglected her own welfare, she was at times ailing, but thought nothing of it. About two weeks ago she became ill, and as the seriousness of the ailment grew, a doctor was called, and high hopes were held for her recovery, but on Wednesday afternoon, June 19, she gradually grew worse. It was God's will that she should be called home and she passed quietly to her rest on Thursday evening at 6:50.

She leaves to mourn her early passing her husband Fred C. Horstman, two sons, Harold and Martin, both at home; five sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, Onalaska, Minn.; Mrs. Marie Stahl, Volga City; Mrs. Reka Hartig, Esmond, N.D.; Mrs. Pauline Starck, Fairbury, Nebr.; Mrs. Annie Swenson, Postville, Iowa; two brothers, Rudolph Jauert, St. Paul, Minn., and John Jauert, Ossian, Iowa, and a host of other relatives and friends too numerous to mention. She reached the age of 49 years, four months and three days.

One sister, Mrs. Joe Thein, one brother, William Jauert, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the home of the deceased, at the Ev. Luth. Manu. church of Elkport. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Rev. F. E. Damm officiated.
