John William Neylan died May 22, 1929, at his home north of Elkader of paralysis after an illness of six years duration.
Mr. Neylan was born March 29, 1855, at Palmyral, Wayne county, New York, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Neylan. December 10, 1879, he was united in marriage here in St. Joseph's church with Lucy Cain and to this union eight children were born, James, John, Jannie, Agnes, Mary (Mrs. B. F. Doyle), Susie (Mrs. A. F. Losch), Lucy and Margaret. Six of these survive, namely: Mrs. Doyle at Minneapolis, Margaret at Eureka, Calif., Mrs. Losch and James of Elkader, and John and Jannie at home. A sister, Mrs. J. L. Keleher, also survives.
Deceased came to this county in 1855 and had lived on the place where he died since 1861.
Funeral services were held May 24, in St. Joseph's church with the Rev. J. P. Taken officiating. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: P. J. Moran of Strubl_, Iowa; J. W. Mora of Ellsworth, Minn.; Ed. Keyhoe of Chicago, and D. and Mrs. Cain of Waukon.
