John Berse passed away at his home here in Elkader at 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at the age of fifty-seven years, one month and eight days.
John Berse was born at North McGregor (Marquette), the son of John and Mary (Berns) Berse. When still a boy he removed with his parents to East Dubuque, Ill., where the family lived a short time before coming to a farm east of Elkader. Seventeen years ago he came to Elkader to make his home and where he lived since.
June, 1921, deceased was married to Sed___a Wilke at St. Joseph's church here and two children were born to this union, one son, Marvin, and one daughter, Norma, who together with the widow survive. Besides the immediate family one brother, Ed Berse of Elkader, and one sister, Mrs. N__k _ross of Oelwein, also survive. Besides these the passing is also mourned by four nieces, Mrs. Mike __sch____ of Elkader, Mrs. Ger____St_B___ of Oelwein, Margor__ Ann and Dorothy Ma_ Berse of Elkader. and two nephews, E____r Schm_l of Minneapolis and E__win Berse, Jr. Four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic church here Saturday morning May 2_ with Rev. J. P. Taken officiating, interment in St. Joseph's cemetery.
