Glen D. Maher, who died Thursday May 2, 1929, at 5:40 a.m., in Chicago, after an illness of three days, at the age of thirty-three years, was buried here Saturday forenoon at ten o'clock in St. Joseph's cemetery, after services had been held in St. Joseph's church, with Rev. J. P. Taken officiating.
Glen Maher was the son of Daniel and Ella Maher and was born here in Elkader, Oct. 21, 1895. He received his education in St. Joseph's school, Elkader, St. Elizabeth's, Chicago, Hyde Park high school, Chicago, and Barrett Business Institute, Chicago. Deceased went to Chicago with his mother and sister, Pearl, and brother, Loy, in 1905 when ten years old. At the age of sixteen he took up employment with a piano company. Later he was employed by the Baldwin Piano Co., as a salesman on the Pacific coast, where he remained for five years. Last year he was sent to New York and about a month ago returned to the Chicago branch of this company.
Glen had a natural talent for music and made for himself quite a reputation as a singer. He studied under Tito Ruffe and Burton Thatcher to further develop his talent. Several weeks ago he took a severe cold and Monday, April 29, pneumonia set in, from this attack he never rallied.
Deceased is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ella Maher, sister of J. K. Molumby of this place, in whose home she was visiting at the time of Glen's death, and one brother, Loy Maher, of Chicago. He was a member of Oakland, Calif., Council Knights of Columbus.
Pallbearers were Roy Hyde, Raymond Humphrey, Patrick Riley, Norbert Niemeyer, Walter Bink and James Fitzpatrick.
