Clayton County Register, Thur., 02 May 1929. Strawberry Point column.

Thomas Dodge Shriver was born on a farm near Arlington, Fayette county, Iowa, May 15, 1873. He was united in marriage to Miss Katie O'Dea June 28, 1899. To this union were born four children. They made it their home on the Shriver homestead until Mrs. Shriver's health failed and then they moved to this place. Mrs. Shriver passed away Oct. 16, 1911. Mr. Shriver was again united in marriage to Miss Alma Brauer of Cedar Grove, Wis., Nov. 12, 1924. He was employed by the postal department of the government on a rural mail route for eighteen years always attending to his duty most faithfully until last fall when ill health compelled him to have his son, Raymond, act as his substitute. Although an operation at Rochester seemed to be of some help it only did so temporarily. Thinking that perhaps a change of climate would be beneficial he was preparing to do so only waiting for an opportune time when death called him away so suddenly last Tuesday morning at 4 0'clock. Being of a congenial disposition and friendly to everybody, Mr. Shriver will also be missed by many in this community and in particular by the patrons on his route. He is survived by his wife and four children, Mrs. Beulah Barnes of Belflower, Cal., Leo Thomas Shriver of Arlington, Mrs. Domna Troupe of Oran, Iowa, and Raymond Shriver at home. He also leaves one granddaughter, Barbara Lou Barnes, and one brother, Levi Shriver of Denver, Colo., besides other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. Jahr, pastor of the Lutheran church. Interment took place in the family lot of our beautiful cemetery. The pall bearers were Alex Porter, Lee Wing, John Tinker, Peter Quinn, Roy Hines, L. A. Little, Frank Connor and Chas. Blanchard.

The race appointed, I have run
The combat's o'er, the prize is won,
I leave the world without a tear
Save for the friends I hold so dear.
