The death of Mrs. Anna Benson occurred last Wednesday after a short illness. Funeral services occurred Saturday at the home conducted by Rev. T. J. Elwick.
Interment took place in the family lot of our beautiful cemetery.
Mrs. Benson, nee Anna Thompson, was born at New Orleans, La., Dec. 20, 1850. At an early age she came with her parents to Dubuque thence to Cox Creek and resided there until she was united in marriage to Andrew Benson which occurred at Elkader in 1878. They immediately moved to a farm near Forestville, where they labored happily and cheerfully together. In 1908 they moved to town. Not only did this mother raise her own children but her grandson, Burnell Benson, was taken into the home in infancy and brought much sunshine to his grandmother, who passed away on his birthday.
Mrs. Benson was of a cheerful, sunny disposition, modest and retiring. Her chief delight was her home and children. Her husband, one son and two daughters preceded her in death. She is survived by three sons and two daughters, B. J. Benson of Dundee, Elmer Benson of Carrington, N.D., Andrew Benson of Minot, N.D., Mrs. Caroline Pazendak of Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. Emily Ritz of Dundee. Also fifteen grandchildren and two brothers, Frank Thompson and John Thompson of Manchester.
