Julius Ponsar was born at Communia Iowa, Feb. 10, 1854. He was the fourth child of Elizabeth, nee Kohlman, and Jacob Ponsar.

The first seventeen years of his life were spent on the farm at home. At the age of twenty-one he learned the miller trade at the motor mill.

In 1883 he took charge of the Buck Creek mill, at that time owned by G. W. Kennedy. On May 3, 1887, he was united in marriage with Isabella Bothmer of Clayton, Iowa. To this union were born three children, Mrs. E. C. Kaiser of Garnavillo, Theodore and Lillian of Detroit, Michigan.

In January 1888 he purchased the Buck Creek mill which he and his brother, William, continued to operate until 1904, when he with his family moved to Lewiston, Mich., where he resided until 1922, when they returned to Garnavillo.

In June, 1928, Mr. and Mrs. Ponsar went to Lewiston, Mich., to spend the summer on their farm, where they remained until Oct., when they went to Detroit to visit with their son and daughter before returning to Iowa.

On Nov. 25, Mr. Ponsar became ill and was taken to Harper hospital Nov. 28, at which place he submitted to two operations which were of no avail. On Tuesday morning he passed away at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 19 days. He is survived by his wife, three children, four grandchildren, and one brother, Robert, of Maynard, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Aug. Tangeman, Miss Louisa Ponsar and two brothers, Theodore and William preceded him in death.

Mr. Ponsar was a member of the A.F. & A.M. and the M.W.A. of Garnavillo.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul's church, Rev. K. Wm. Braun officiating.
