William Carl Bruening, born Nov. 22, 1865, in Meckleburg-Schiverin, Germany. Confirmed in Lutheran church of Guttenberg, Ia., March 21, 1880. Married at Elkport, Ia., March 29, 1894, to Bertha Hinrichs of Garber, Ia. They resided at Guttenberg 27 years and came to Volga seven years ago, and have made their home here since. He leaves a wife and three children: Mrs. Otto Thiese of Clayton, Ia.; Mrs. Alma Thiese of Oelwein, Ia.; and Clarence Bruening of Volga, Ia. Five grandchildren: Edith, Hilda, Charlene, Billy and Roxie Thiese; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Knecker of Guttenberg; and one brother, Carl Bruening of Osterdock, Ia.

He passed away Friday morning at the age of 63 years. He is preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Carl Gneincke of Guttenberg, Mrs. Fred Flagel of Osterdock, and an infant brother in Germany. A short funeral service was held at the house Sunday afternoon, Rev. brown officiating. Funeral services were held in the Lutheran church at Guttenberg Monday afternoon. Interment at Guttenberg.

Mr. Bruening was an honest, upright Christian man, respected by all. He made many friends while he lived in Volga. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.
