Elkader Register, Thur., 10 Dec. 1925.

A profound feeling of sadness was cast over our community, Saturday, November 28th when it became known that Mrs. B. A. Doty had passed away at St. Vincent Hospital at Crookston, Minnesota, where she had submitted to a critical operation.

Sophia Hagensick Doty was born in Read township, October 9, 1882. With her parents, John and Wilhelmine Hagensick they moved to Boardman township, where she grew to womanhood. On September 4, 1901, she was united in marriage to Bert A. Doty of Highland township, at which place they resided until 1902, when they returned to Boardman township, where they resided until 1911. In that year they moved to Crookston, Minn.

Besides her husband, B. A. Doty, she leaves to mourn her aged mother, Mrs. John Hagensick, Elkader, four sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Anna E. Wagner and Glen Hagensick, Elkader, Iowa; Mrs. Con Samp of Oelwein, Iowa; Mrs. P. M. Moser and Mrs. W. E. Looby of Nunda, South Dakota; William Hagensick of Brookings, South Dakota; and John Hagensick of Ossen, Wis.; two uncles, Wm. Patow and Christian Hagensick of Elkader.

Her grief stricken husband and relatives are left to mourn the loss of one who had a warm spot in the hearts of all with whom she associated; one who always was ready to extend a helping hand to the needy and afflicted; one who will be sadly missed from the community in which she lived, also from every place where she was known. The deceased was a woman of many excellent traits of character, generous and kind hearted disposition and loved by all who knew her. In life she was passionately fond of flowers and in death was buried in a bed of choicest blossoms.

The remains were brought to Elkader where the funeral was held last Wednesday at St. Joseph's church, Rev. Father Taken officiating. Her remains were laid to rest in Illyria cemetery in Highland township, followed by a large number of friends and acquaintances.
