Elkader Register, Thur., 26 Nov. 1925. Guttenberg column.

The death of Mrs. Bernhard Henry Eilers (nee Anna Adelheit Hoffschlag), one of the community's most worthy aged mothers and highly respected pioneer residents, occurred at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Anna Risselman, in this city on Friday evening, November 20, 1925, at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 8 days, the cause of her death being mostly due to old age. Deceased was born in Herzford, Hanover, Germany, on February 12, 1838, later immigrating to the United States and settling in Jefferson township, Clayton County, Iowa, where she spent the remainder of her life. She was united in marriage with Bernard Henry Eilers at Guttenberg, Iowa, on July 12, 1858, who preceded her in death on August 23, 1877. For many years the couple resided in this township. Fifteen years ago deceased came to Guttenberg to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Anna Risselman, where she has always received the tenderest of care. Mrs. Eilers was a kind and loving mother and friend. Her greatest pleasure in life at all times was to do acts of kindness for her family and friends, and her memories will be forever cherished by all. She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic church here, where funeral services were held and conducted by Rev. H. J. Krieger on Tuesday morning. The body was laid to rest in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Her death is deeply mourned by one son, Henry B. Eilers, of Guttenberg; six daughters, Mrs. Anna Risselman, of Guttenberg; Mrs. Mary Stoeb_r, of Coxville, N.D.; Mrs. Margaret Tegeler, of Dyersville; Mrs. Lena Willenburg, of Petersburg; Mrs. Katherine Kann and Mrs. Theresa Kann, of Jefferson township; twenty-five grand and twenty-four great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends, who will all sadly miss this good and true mother and friend. The funeral was largely attended by relatives from far and near, which showed that deceased was held in the highest of esteem by all who knew her.

(Note: Her husbands given name was spelled both ways in this obit, as shown here.)
