Elkader Register, Thur., 12 Nov. 1925. Guttenberg columns.

Peter Burr, one of this communities life long, highly respected residents, passed away on Monday, November 9, 1925, at St. Frances hospital, La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he had gone for medical treatment and submitted to an operation. Mr. Burr had been ill for several months when death called him. The body was brought to Guttenberg on Tuesday afternoon and taken to his home here. Deceased was born in Jefferson twp., Clayton County, Iowa, in 1863, and therefore was 62 years old when called to the Great Beyond by the Angel of Death. He was married at Guttenberg to Miss Clara Kann. When a young man he learned the carpenter trade, which occupation he followed for some time. He was always successfully engaged in farming in this township for many years, a few years ago retiring and coming to Guttenberg with his family to reside, where he spent the remainder of his life. Mr. Burr was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic church in this city, where funeral services will be conducted, Friday morning, November 13th, by Rev. H. J. Krueger. Burial will be made in St. Mary's cemetery. He was an ambitious man and upright and honest citizen in every respect, and was a kind and true husband, father, brother and friend. To help the needy was his greatest pleasure in life at all times, which won him countless friends, and by whom his memories will be forever cherished. He was held in high regard by all in this community. His death is deeply mourned by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Carl Berns and Miss Olive Burr, one son, William, two brothers, Frank Burr and ______ Burr, all of Guttenberg; five sisters, Mrs. Adolph Meyer, Mrs. Joseph Felder, Mrs. John Straum, Mrs. Joseph Wolter and Miss Fannie Burr, all of Guttenberg, and numerous other relatives and friends, by whom this good and true man will be sadly missed. During his illness all was done by loving hands and medical knowledge, but all to no avail.
