Mr. Herman Carl Werger was born October 12th, 1863, in Farmersburg township. He was the son of Mr. Wm. Ernest Werger and wife Doria Marie, nee Best. He was baptized by Rev. Seifert and confirmed in the Zions church at Clayton Center on April 6th, 1879. In 1897, November 19th, he was united in marriage to Miss Juliana Marting. This union was blessed with two sons, Ernest and Carl.
Soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Werger moved to a farm one-half mile east of National where they have made their home ever since. Several years ago, Mr. Werger had a very severe attack of Nephritis with complications from which he never fully recovered, although he was able to up and around until Friday, October 16th, he complained of not feeling so well. Medical aid was called but of no avail, while he did not have to suffer a great deal of pain yet his sickness was of such a nature that death came to him as relief on October 20th, at 7:10 o'clock. He had reached the age of 62 years and 8 days.
Deceased leaves his wife, two sons, Ernest married to Lucy Marie Lenth, and Carl at home; one brother, August of Farmersburg township; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Miller and Miss Bertha Werger, both of Monona; one grandchild, Vernell; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at St. Paul's church Saturday afternoon, Rev. Braun officiating. Interment in the new cemetery. - Garnavillo Tribune.
