Elkader Register, Thur., 15 Oct. 1925.

The "Reaper" Death came to a beloved Mother. Our dear mother is gone - that's the cry falling from the lips of her beloved children. And indeed how dark their sky, how gloomy their future life. But thank God her children have a religion that can throw light into the darkest night and sustain them in the most tying day. Wednesday night, October 8th, 2 o'clock a.m. our beloved sister passed away. It is Mrs. Elizabeth Meier, nee Wille. Her cradle stood in a village called Gross Manzer in Prussia (Germany). Here she was born April 13, 1852, baptized and confirmed. Our departed sister was united in marriage, September 22, 1872, with John Charles Meier. To this blessed and happy union Eleven children were born. Three children preceded the mother in death in early infancy. The husband of the departed mother passed away July 22, 1912, near Kimball, South Dakota. Our departed sister leaves to mourn eight children, namely: Mrs. Minnie Vosgrau, Kimball, S.D.; Mrs. John Ihde, Read twp.; Mrs. Fred Ihde, Wagner twp.; Mrs. Fred Ihlenfeldt, Elkader; Mrs. Fred Hanson, Kimball, S.D.; and William Meier, Postville. She also leaves 24 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She came to the United States in the year 1872 and after a short stay in Chicago, she came to Read township, then to Postville and later to Kimball, S.D., where her husband died. The deceased stayed with her children around Kimball for about 11 years, returning to Clayton county she made her home with her daughter, Anna, for 8 years. Then she lived 2 years in John Ihde's home, where she passed away. Our departed sister reached the age of 73 years, 5 months and 25 days. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Zions Lutheran church at Clayton Center, burial in the new cemetery, Rev. Wuestenberg officiating.
