Mrs. Wilhelmina Rueter
Mrs. Wilhelmina Sophia Margarehta Ruetter, nee Otting, was born on June 3rd, 1838, in Hanover, Germany. When 15 years of age she came with her parets, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Otting, to America, to Cincinnatti, Ohio. The next spring they came to Clayton County, Iowa.
On July 3rd, 1856, she was united in marriage to Mr. Fredrich Ruetter. This union was blessed with 9 children, 6 of whom preceded the mother in death. The father died on July 13th, 1876, after an illness of seven years duration.
Mrs. Ruetter spent nearly 70 years on the farm in Garnavillo township, where she past away on Wednesday afternoon, September 9th, at 1 o'clock, at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 7 days. She had enjoyed good health until last winter the flu left her in a weakened condition. About two weeks ago she had the misfortune to break her lower limb.
Deceased leaves one son, Herman of McGregor, and two daughters, Miss Margaret Rueter and Mrs. Friederika Wehrkamp of Garnavillo township; two sisters, Mrs. Friedrika Buckman of Farmersburg twp., and Mrs. Justina Schulte of Clayton twp.; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at St. Paul's Church, Rev. K. Braum officiating. Interment in the new cemetery. - Garnavillo Tribune.
