Elkader Register, Thur., 06 Aug. 1925.
Miss Mary Hagensick passed away Monday afternoon, Aug. 3rd, at the home of her brother, A. E. Hagensick, in Iowa Falls. The cause of her death was a cancer which had gradually been gaining its hold on her system for some years. An attack of influenza last winter weakened her and she could not seem to get back to her normal health. In May she went to Iowa Falls for a visit and soon became ill and for eight weeks made a brave fight for life.
Mary Hagensick was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Hagensick and was born at Ceres in Garnavillo township, September 27th, 1872. For close to forty-five years she has made her home with her brother, H. H. Hagensick, in Elkader. She attended school here and for years has assisted him in the drug store.
She is survived by the following brothers and sisters: John G. Hagensick, Lemmon, South Dakota; George A. Hagensick, J. C. Hagensick and Fred Hagensick, of Lincoln, Nebraska; A. E. Hagensick, Iowa Falls; C. W. Hagensick, of Lincoln, Neb.; Louis Hagensick of Read township; Henry H. Hagensick, Mrs. Kate Schroeder and Mrs. Bertha Gray, of Elkader.
Many more distant relatives and a very wide circle of friends will also sorrow at her passing.
Mary Hagensick was one of God's own, whose brows have been stamped with the seal of service. Quiet in disposition but with a fund of humor that made her a jolly companion, she made a friend of everyone with whom she came in contact. Always accommodating, her life was one of service to others. Hers was a heart of gold radiating friendship of others. It would be hard to find a higher type of womanhood.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Evangelical church, with Rev. K. W. Braun officiating. Charity Chapter, No. 152, Order of the Eastern Star, of which Miss Hagensick was a devoted member, will have charge of the services. Interment will be in the East Side cemetery.
