Elkader Register, Thur., 23 July 1925. Strawberry Point columns.
Monday afternoon the tolling of the Lutheran bells and soon the sad word was passed from one to another that Mrs. Clarence Backstrom had passed away.
Mrs. Backstrom was formerly, Miss Elizabeth Schug, daughter of Mrs. Minnie Schug. She was born on a farm in Putman Twp. and moved to town about nineteen years ago with her parents. After completing her education in the public school she was the deputy post mistress. She was married to Clarence Backstrom, October 2, 1923, and still kept her place post office until a few months ago she resigned on account of ill health. During the time she served the public she was always agreeable, courteous and gained friends as everyone was her friend. While we shall miss her kindly smile and loving deeds for others, we know that Death is just the passing to "God's Eternal Love." The golden gateway to the Eternal City has been opened to welcome her home. Mrs. Backstrom was a devoted member of the Lutheran church and maintained a keen interest in the Young Peoples League. Her father, John Schug, preceded her, February 18, 1923, and a sister, Dorothy, dying in infancy. Besides her heart broken husband, she leaves her devoted mother and two sisters, Mrs. F. E. Waldron and Elaine, both of this place and other relatives, also a large circle of friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Lutheran church, Thursday afternoon at two o'clock conducted by her pastor, Rev. Fritschel.
