Elkader Register, Thur., 16 July 1925. Strawberry Point column.
Theodore Rude, a milk tester of Brookings, South Dakota, who has been here for the past few months, was drowned near the Covered Bridge last Sunday. Mr. Rude and a party of men went in swimming after supper and whether he was taken with cramps or on account of a weak heart, he went down the third time. The rest of the party recovered the body and immediately brought it to town where Dr. F. H. Howard assisted by two doctors and a pulmonary from Manchester worked over him for sometime but it is thought the young man was dead when taken from the water. Mr. Rude is well spoken of by the farmers where he had worked. His mother was on her way home from California and he was to start Monday and meet her whom he had not seen for some time. What a sad home coming it will be for this poor mother. The remains were shipped Tuesday morning for Brookings, South Dakota, where the interment will take place.
