Elkader Register, Thur., 09 Apr. 1925. Strawberry Point column.

The death of Mrs. Elizabeth Schug, aged nearly 86 years old occurred last Wednesday evening at the home of her son, Peter, due to the infirmities of old age. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church Saturday afternoon conducted by her pastor, Rev. Fritschel. Miss Elizabeth Gerrmann was born in Germany, Dec. 16, 1861. She was united in marriage to John Peter Schug. On 1864 Mr. and Mrs. Schug left their native country and came to the U.S. Their first home was in New Jersey and later in Ohio. Where they remained six months. Finally they came to this part of the country and settled down on a farm about seven miles west of here from where they moved to a place three miles south and finally took charge of a place two and one half miles southwest of town where they lived for a number of years. Twenty nine years ago they came to town. Mr. Schug preceded her in death March 20, 1918. Also three children, Mrs. Elizabeth Frederick and John of this place and Mrs. Katherine Fabert of Guttenberg. Those surviving are Charles and Peter of this place, Albert of Arlington, Mrs. Mary Theisinger of Sumner, Mrs. Louise Sauerbry and Mrs. Rose Lieban of Waverly and Miss Lena at home. None of us know the sufferings this mother bore but she bore them as patiently as she could. For with Paul she can say "I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord shall give me at that day." The sympathy of many friends are extended to the bereaved.

(Note: Her age in years at death and her given date of birth, together with the year given for immigration do not appear to be correct. These dates were clear in the newspaper article.)
