Elkader Register, Thur., 05 Mar. 1925. Luana column.
Our deceased sister Mrs. Anna Steglich was born near Garnavillo, Iowa, on Dec. 8, 1864. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. John Koss. Her Christian parents brought her to Holy Baptism, also had her instructed in the way that leads to eternal life. She remained with her parents until March 7, 1889, when she was united in marriage to Mr. August Steglich and since then she has lived on the farm south of Luana. This union was blessed with three children, Carl, Mrs. Albert Behrens and Rosa. About seven years ago the health of our deceased sister began to fail. During the following years her condition grew worse. An operation became necessary but her weakened condition did not permit it. About a year ago she appeared stronger and went to Cresco to have a goiter removed. The operation was successful and it was hoped that the heart trouble caused by the goiter would now leave and that she would regain her health. This hope was not realized for her heart trouble remained a constant danger. When the family arose on Thursday morning, she appeared to be sleeping and it was thought best to leave her rest. A short time later her husband discovered that she was dead. She is survived by her husband, her three children Carl, Mrs. Behrens and Rosa; two sisters: Mrs. Louis Oldag and Mrs. Herman Gruel, one brother John Koss of Garnavillo and two grandchildren. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at St. John's Lutheran church in Luana. Services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. H. P. Kumpf.
