Elkader Register, Thur., 29 Jan. 1925.

Mrs. Henry Freitag passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. August Funk, in Boardman Township Tuesday night, a few minutes after midnight.

Dorothea, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. Witte, was born in Read Twp., Clayton County, Iowa, Nov. 21st, 1864. There her childhood days and the years of youth were spent until Nov. 6th, 1890, when she was united in marriage to Mr. Henry Freitag. The young couple went West and started housekeeping on a farm near Dakin, Nebr. There they remained for about 16 months, when they returned to Clayton County and moved on a farm in Boardman Twp. close to the Turkey River, South-East of Elkader, which was their home for the next fourteen years. Frequently suffering from the floods of the river, Mr. Freitag sold the farm and purchased another place in Read Twp. After another thirteen years of hard work, Mr. and Mrs. Freitag decided to make Elkader their home and leave the farm in charge of their boys. This change was partly caused by the fact that Mrs. Freitag's health began to fail, a nervous trouble, caused by internal disorders. In October of last year her condition became more serious. Returning from the Mayo Clinic, at Rochester, Minn., where neither relief nor encouragement was given it was deemed advisable to give up the home in town for a while and stay with the children, Mr. and Mrs. August Funk, of Boardman Twp., where everything possible was done to give comfort and relief to the patient who required constant care. Loving hands were ever ready to minister to the various needs and wants, but in spite of it all she began to fail visibly, and was confined to her bed for the last few weeks with a special nurse constantly at her bedside. The expected end came Wednesday, Jan. 28th, at 12:20 o'clock in the morning, at the age of 60 years, 2 months and 7 days.

The departure of a good wife and loving mother is mourned by the husband, Mr. Henry Freitag, two daughters, Mrs. August Funk, of Boardman Twp., and Mrs. Lorenzo Buckman, of Read Twp., two sons, Harry and Elmer on the home farm, and one little granddaughter, Anna Belle Mae, child of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Freitag. She also leaves two brothers and three sisters, William Witte of Denver, Colo., August Witte of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Emma Armstrong and Mrs. Sophia Mallory of Lincoln, Neb., and Mrs. Louise Jahnke of Garnavillo, other relatives and a host of friends.

She was a member of the Evangelical church and the Frauen Verein, and will be missed at her accustomed place.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Friday) January 30th, 1:30 at the house and 2:00 o'clock at the Evangelical church with Rev. Fr____ officiating. Burial will be in the East Side cemetery.
