Word has been received here of the death of Marvin Cook, formerly of Elkader, at Pasadena, Cal., on Monday, January 5th.

Mr. Cook was born Jan. 16th, 1845, in Medina County, Ohio, and came to Clayton County with his parents when he was about ten years of age. He grew to manhood on a farm in Highland twp. receiving what education he could get at the local school. Later he attended Upper Iowa University at Fayette and in 1865 started to read law in the office of Hunt & Price at Elkader.

Dec. 28th, 1869, Mr. Cook was married to Eliza E. Gilbert and two sons, Irving and Herbert, were born to them. Irving died several months ago; Herbert is living in Milwaukee, Wis.

Mr. Cook was a prominent citizen of Elkader for many years and was Clerk of the Court for several terms. In the 80s he went to South Dakota and lived at Huron for a number of years, returning here about 189_ (looks like 1893 or 1895) and with his son Herbert published the Elkader Argus. He also engaged in the practice of law.

About twenty years ago he went to Milwaukee, where he was employed in the right-of-way department of the C.M. & St. P. railway, until a year ago when he retired and with Mrs. Cook went to southern California.

His many friends here will sorrow to hear of his death.
