Elkader Register, Fri. morning, 08 Oct. 1897. Volga City Views column.

Friday, Oct. 1st, 1897, occurred the death of Mrs. Wm. Crain, of old age. She was born in Coln, England, in 1810. Was married to David Thulbon in 1820, came with her husband to Lockport, N.Y., in 1853, and there resided until 185_ (looks like 1855), when they came to this county. Her husband died in 1866. She was married again to Wm. Crain in 1884. She leaves a husband, one daughter, Mrs. Charles Woods, of this place, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was a kind and affectionate lady and was a friend to everyone. The funeral occurred Sunday at the M.E. church, conducted by Rev. O, S. Davis.

(Note: WPA records indicate Ann Crain, 1812 - 1897, buried in Hillcrest cemetery. Her year of birth and the year of her first marriage in this article appear to be in error.)
