Elkader Register, Fri. morning, 27 Aug. 1897. Local Scrap Bag columns.
The Dubuque Herald for Sunday Aug. 23rd, contained the following account of the death of Mrs. Annie O'Connor, formerly a Clayton county girl:
At 1 o'clock this morning Mrs. Annie O'Connor, wife of Policeman O'Connor, died at their residence, 102 South Locust street, after an illness of several months. Mrs. O'Connor, who was 35 years of age, was formerly Miss Annie Boyle. She was born in Clayton county and had resided in Dubuque about 18 years. She leaves two children aged 4 and 3 years, with her husband, to mourn her loss, also two sisters and three brothers as follows; Mrs. Joseph Finnegan, of Elkader, and Miss Maggie, John, Joseph and Frank of this city. Miss O'Connor in her long illness has borne her sickness with Christian fortitude and looked upon the end with that hopefulness that comes to true Christians. She was a fond mother and a helpful affectionate wife and sister, and her demise has cast the happy little family circle in deepest gloom.
