Emily Matilda Hoffman was born in Saxony, Germany, on Dec. 16, 1820, and died in Strawberry Point on April 30, 1897, at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 14 days.
Emily Matilda Leadloff was married to Charley Hoffman on Aug. 9, 1842. They came to America in 1849, and settled first in Cleveland, Ohio, where they resided for four years, they then immigrated to Iowa, living at Taylorville for thirty years. The past four years of deceased's life were spent with her daughter, Mrs. Fortney, of this place. She was the mother of eight children, three of whom, together with her husband have preceded her in death. Her husband died eighteen years ago.
Mrs. Hoffman has not been well for twenty-four years but was helpless for only about four weeks. Her daughter and grandchildren here have the community's sympathy.
