Elkader Register, Fri. morning, 05 Mar. 1897.
After an illness of only four days of congestion of the lungs and heart trouble, Mrs. Chas. W. Muzzy passed away to the great beyond about 11 o'clock Tuesday evening, March 2d, 1897. Ann Hodgkins was born at Grand Isle, Vermont, Sept. 20, 1821. Sept. 1, 1839, she was united in marriage with Milo Adams, and with her husband came to Wisconsin in 1848. They came to Elkader in 1852, and that summer erected the dwelling in which she has since lived, occupying it in December of that year. It is said to be the first house erected in Elkader, built of pine lumber. Jan. 31st, 1863, Mr. Adams died, and March 18, 1868, she married Chas. W. Muzzy.
Being among the pioneer settlers of Elkader, deceased has been well known to our people, and highly respected for her many good qualities of heart and mind. She has been devoted to her family, and in her last thoughts was endeavoring to plan for the comfort of the aged companion whom she leaves. Besides a large circle of friends who mourn her departure, are the following nieces; Mrs. Anna Knatvold, Albert Lea, Minn.; Mrs. Mary Sprague, Grafton, S.D.; Mrs. Eunice Miller, of Mitchell, S.D.; Mrs. Lena Sullivan, of Tacoma, Wash.; and Mrs. L. F. Gossmann, of Elkader: a step-daughter, Mrs. Addie Tipton and a step-son, Chas. Muzzy, of Delphos, Kas. The sympathy of our people goes out to the bereaved family.
The funneral will be held this Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, services at the Congregational church conducted by Revs. Fisk and Ellis.
