On Saturday, January 23rd, 1897, occurred the death of Mrs. E. Pettit. She had been troubled for years with a cancer. About a year ago she had a operation performed which for a time seemed would prove a success. Some two months ago she became worse than usual and since that time kept steadily failing, until death ended her sufferings.
Miss Sarra J. Manchester was born in Providence, Saratoga County, New York, on October 30th, 18__, making her 67 years, 2 months and 23 days old. She was married to E. Pettit on January 23rd, 1850. Two children, boys, were born to them; both are living.
Mrs. Rettit was a Christian worker, having united with the Baptist church at Wilson, Niagara County, New York, in 1852. She had many friends, who extend their sympathy to her husband and the other sorrowing ones. The funeral took place at the house on Monday, Conducted by Rev. Sonner.
