Thursday, Oct. 25th, 1900, Patrick Bergan, one of Clayton county's oldest and most highly respected citizens passed from this life at his home, three miles south of Volga. He had been in poor health for some time, and the last week gradually grew worse until he passed away Thursday morning, in the fullness of days, his age being about 8_ (looks like 83 or 85) years. A good man has gone to his rest, peace to his soul.

The funeral was held at the Sacred Heart church Saturday morning, the service being conducted by Rev. Father Daly. It was one of the largest funerals ever held in this vicinity.
