Elkader Register, Thur., 27 Sept. 1900. Local News column.
George, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Lei, died at Dodge City, Kans., on Saturday Sept. 15th, of mountain fever. The young man left Elkader last April for the west, and had written home regularly. Last Wednesday the family received word that he was sick and desired to come home. His father started for Dodge City and later sent the sad intelligence of the young man's death. Deceased was born in this township and was about 20 years of age. His remains arrived here Tuesday and the funeral was held Wednesday morning at St. Joseph's church, Rev. Father Reilly officiating in the solemn services. A very large concourse of the friends of the family attended the last sad rites, in sympathy with the bereaved family.
