Elkader Register, Thur., 24 May 1900. Littleport column.

Om Wednesday evening, May 16, at 9:30 o'clock, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Liddy, of this place, death came and claimed as a victim Margaret, wife of George Harris.

Margaret Liddy was born near Littleport, Iowa, August 13, 1858, and was at the time of her death 41 years, 9 months and 3 days old.

In this vicinity she spent the sunny hours of her girlhood days, receiving such education as the common school at that time afforded. January 7th, 1880, she was married to George Harris, in a short time they moved to Manchester. After a few years in that place they moved to Dubuque where they resided until about a year ago, when the dread disease consumption laid its icy fingers upon her, and in hope of finding relief she went to Chicago. but the disease had made such progress that it was beyond the skill of physicians to heal, and when told that she was slowly but surely dying and that the end was near she expressed the wish to once more visit the scenes of her early life and to see again the home of her childhood and spend the few remaining days with her parents at the old homestead. Realizing that death had inevitably marked her for its own, her great desire was that it might come in the balmy month of May.

She leaves to mourn her death a husband, two sons, four brothers and three sisters. The elder son, Dell, is married and lives at Dubuque, the younger son, Byron, is still at home. Of the brothers: J. J. Liddy resides at Littleport, engaged in the mercantile business; D. H. Liddy is in business at Monticello; M. H. Liddy is in business at Strawberry Point; and Dr. J. F. Liddy is at Chicago. Of the sisters: Mrs. A. L. Beardslee resides at Manchester; Mrs. Wm. Hennessy at Dubuque; and Hannah at Chicago. An aged father and mother are also left to mourn, on whose brow the diamond crown of years rests in honor, having both passed the 83rd milestone in life's long journey and are nearing the foot of the western slope.

She was a noble wife, a tender, devoted mother, an affectionate daughter, a kind sister and a friendly, obliging neighbor. She will be sadly missed and her memory cherished by all who knew her. She long and patiently bore her great suffering, and fortified by the rites of the Catholic church of which she was a life long member, she passed out upon the great ocean whose waves wash the shores of eternity without fear and without trembling.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Father Minogue who paid a fitting tribute to the life and character of the deceased. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Littleport, the vast concourse that attended the funeral attesting the high esteem in which deceased was held by all who knew her.

And while with bowed heads and sorrowful hearts, we turn tearfully from this sad and bitter parting, let us fondly cherish the thought that beyond this dark night of death "hope can see a star and listening love can hear the rush of the wing."

Those who attended the funeral from abroad were: Dr. Liddy, of Chicago; M. H. Liddy, Strawberry Point; Mrs. Beardslee and Hannah Liddy, of Manchester; Dennis Liddy and wife, of Monticello; Mr. Kenyon and wife, of Arlington; Mrs. Culligan and daughter, of Masonville; E. Harris and wife, Mrs. King and daughter, M. Lucy and wife, H. Wiley and wife and Mr. Nohler and wife, all of Edgewood; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. McCullough, of Holy Cross; Wm. Hennessey and wife, Mrs. P. Enright, Aggie O'Laughly, D. H. McCarthy, Mrs. H. McCarthy, M. Hayes, John Hayes, Jas. Hayes, Aggie and Maggie Hennessey, of Dubuque; Dennis Hayes, Whittemore; Michael Hayes, Whittemore; Chas. and David Barr, Manchester.
