Ivanelle Leona Bushaw, 89, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was born August 29, 1930, in Elkport, the daughter of Edward and Adelia (Gerloff) Haught. Ivanelle spent her life since the age of three in the Strawberry Point area and attended Strawberry Point school.
On August 1, 1947, Ivanelle was united in marriage to Donald Bushaw at the Delhi United Methodist parsonage and was later blessed with five children. With her husband Don, they owned and operated Bushaw Feed & Seed from 1966 until 1992. Ivanelle then worked at the Starmont School as a cook and also enjoyed working at the Osborne Nature Center. She also worked at Kids Rec Center and was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts. Ivanelle was president of Backbone Lake Friends and it was her long-time dream to dredge the Backbone Lake.
Ivanelle spent her life taking care of her parents, friends and neighbors, always putting everyone ahead of herself. She loved flowers (especially roses), gardening and helping with various projects. Ivanelle enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered for always keeping busy, friendly and ready to help anyone in a time of need, and as a very generous and kind person. She will always be loved and in our hearts forever.
Survivors include her five children, Don (Bev) Bushaw of Westgate, Ellen (George) Meyer of Strawberry Point, Kathy (Tom) Schirmer of Manchester, Joyce Bushaw of Independence, and Jon Bushaw of Oelwein; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren: nine great-great grandchildren; and a special friend Russell Scofield of Strawberry Point.
Ivanelle was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; two grandsons, Dave Bushaw and Dan Meyer; two great-grandsons, Victor Schirmer-Loghren and Benton Meyer; five sisters, Marie Lamphier, Louise Lamphier, Imogene Prillo, Vergie Havig and one in infancy; and three brothers, Lyle, Arlo and Lloyd Haught.
Because of COVID-19, masks are strongly recommended at the funeral home and at the church. The family understands if you are not comfortable attending visitation or the funeral service.
