At her residence in this place on Thursday evening, May 3rd, 1900, occurred the death of Mrs. Wm. Wingate, after a lingering illness of many months. Louisa Ann Packman was born in Kent county, England, Sept. 5th, 1831. May 30th, 1852, she was united in marriage to Wm. Wingate. They came to America in 1858 and located soon after in Highland twp., where they resided until about eleven years ago when they came to Elkader.
In her youth Mrs. Wingate was confirmed in the Episcopal church and through her long sufferings has had faith in God and trusted Him. She leaves her husband, an aged mother in England, four brothers and three sisters, besides many nephews and nieces to mourn her loss.
A short service was held at the house Saturday morning at which Rev. S. E. Yaggy officiated, after which the remains were taken to Charles City, for interment in Riverside Cemetery beside those of her friends.
