Elkader Register, Thur., 15 Mar. 1900.

In Farmersburg twp., on Thursday, March 8th, occurred the death of John Lenth, one of the pioneers of this county. He was born in Brunow, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Jan. 14, 1821, and came to this country in 1857. He came to Garnavillo twp., where he found employment until 1863 when he bought a farm in Farmersburg twp., on which he lived until his death. He was the father of seven children of whom two died in childhood, five sons having grown to manhood and living in this county. The funeral was held at Clayton Center Sunday, being largely attended. Rev. Seifert, who had been a long-time friend of the deceased, officiated, delivering an eloquent tribute to his memory.
