James Skipworth, an old soldier who has lived a long time on Pleasant Ridge, was buried Monday. A delegation of his old comrades of Hervy Dix post, McGregor attended the funeral.

DIED - Jan. 20, 1900, Jas. P. Skipworth, after a lingering illness of several months, of an absess of the kidneys.
Mr. Skipworth was born Feb. 1841, served three years in the Civil War, and had an honorable discharge.
Four children were born to him, all of which are dead. He leaves a wife to mourn his loss.
His remains were interred in the Council Hill cemetery Monday, Rev. Smith preached a short but very impressive sermon, at the residence.
The following members of Hervey Dix Post assisted in laying their old comrade to rest: W.L. Jones, A. Wooden, J. Ellis, G.W. Madden, C. Stillwell and Geo. Douglass.

-His widow (and 2nd wife) was Hannah (Ryan) Skipworth. Their marriage on 06/23/1885 is recorded in the Return of Marriages for Clayton co.:

Hannah Ryan, age 22, b. Waukon, IA, father Thomas Ryan, mother Mary Morrison, no. of bride marriages 1-Hannah remarried to Edward Banze in Prairie du Chien, WI in early Jan. 1902 and died later that month, January 1902, in childbirth.
