Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, June 16, for Edward Herbert Smith, 33, R.R. 1, Blythe, Calif., at the Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Alvin F. Volle officiating. Burial will be in the Smithfield cemetery, Monona, Iowa.
Mr. Smith died Sunday, June 12, at Herber City, Utah, the result of a head-on car crash as Mr. Smith and his wife, the former Bonnie Entwisle, were on their way to visit Mrs. Smith's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Entwisle, Elkader. Mrs. Smith is hospitalized in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Edward Herbert Smith, son of Richard and Cleone Smith, was born July 14, 1932, at Fairfield, Iowa. After the death of his mother, he made his home with his great-uncle and aunt, the late Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Smith, Volga. He graduated from the Volga High School in 1949.
Mr. Smith was in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict from Nov. 1949 to July, 1953. He was employed by the Federal Aeronautics Association in California.
He is survived by his wife; his father and stepmother, the Richard Smiths, Oelwein; two sisters, Mrs. Phil (Selma) Gunderson, Clinton, and Mrs. Clyde (Grace) Rash, Marshalltown.
